Sleeping Situation (HELP?)

Cody and I are well aware that newborn babies don't sleep through the night. We know that G will most likely wake and want to eat several times and that he'll probably need a little soothing to get him back to sleep. We expect to be a little sleep deprived and are totally okay with that.

We usually get about five to six hours of sleep a night. We know we are lucky for the amount of sleep we have been consistently getting. It's definitely a functionable amount and I have many friends that have dealt with less. That being said, the past few days I've noticed a little problem in our night time routine and I thought I'd seek out a little advice from some of my blogging Momma friends.

Unfortunately, for those of you who have no interest in my son's sleeping/feeding habits, this post will probably be quite a bore and I don't blame you if you want to skip right past it. I'll include a few cute pictures at the end to make up for all of this wordiness.

Our nights normally go as follows:
-Last feeding before bed around 10:30 (he is often asleep before this feeding)
   -Diaper change
   -Swaddled
   -Rocked to sleep by Daddy
-Laid to sleep in his bassinet next to our bed

He's usually asleep in his bassinet bed by 11:30 pm at the latest and wakes again around 2:45-3:00 am (a good three hour span of sleep that I love). Around 3:00 am he seems to be hungry and he usually has a pretty dirty diaper that's bothering him. After being fed (this is a very short feeding, usually 10 minutes max.) and changed, we re-swaddle him and rock him for a little while again. He's usually back in his bassinet by 3:45 am at the latest.

Unfortunately, the second span of sleep isn't nearly as long. He begins fussing around 4:45 am and is usually crying and ready to be picked up by 5:00 am. I feed him again (a longer feeding this time) and we are usually too tired to start the changing/swaddling/rocking process again so I just put him in bed next to me. He sleeps till about 8:00.

I've been trying to figure out why exactly he has that short little spurt of sleep and the only thing I can figure is that his 3:00 am feeding is too short and isn't keeping him full for long.

So far in my breastfeeding journey I have simply followed Gunner's cues. I feed him when he gives hunger cues and assume that he is full when he unlatches. This has worked really well so far. In two weeks he has not only reached his birth weight (the goal given by his pediatrician), he has gained almost two pounds over it, so I'd say G knows when he is hungry and knows when he is full. However, at 3 o'clock in the morning I think his sleepiness takes over his hunger.

Anyways, I'm just wondering if any of you Momma's out there have some advice on how to make his 3 am feeding a little longer. I try switching sides, I try waking him up...nothing.

Any pearls of wisdom out there?
Please and thank you.
