Guest Post: Lauren

I couldn't be happier to have this post on my blog. When Lauren, an old Young Life student and friend of mine, asked to post about the impact I've had on her life, I was blown away. Lauren is an amazing woman of God and I was so humbled to read the things she wrote about me. I hope you enjoy her post and that you will check out her blog as well.

The first time I met Carly, I was a junior in high school. One of the only reasons I knew who she was is because of her brother. I’m about to really embarrass myself when I tell you she has a very attractive younger brother. I’m speaking for every girl in Young Life at that time, when I say that! I remember she was cute, and sassy, and super funny. I never knew that she would have such a huge impact on my life.

She was one of my Young Life leaders. Whom at the time I thought was just someone to hang out with me occasionally, and see every Monday night at Young Life. Little did I know, Carly, along with all of my Young Life leaders, was showing me a glimpse of Jesus.  If it weren’t for Carly, or any of my other leaders, I would not be where I am today. Carly showed me what loving the Lord looks like. She showed me true friendship. Friendship that is sweet for the soul. Yes, she was my Young Life leader, but she was also my friend. And I would even go as far to say best friend. We shared life together along with all of my other leaders, and friends.

I remember when she dressed up as “Snooki” from Jersey Shore for Club. I remember going to her wedding. I remember going to countless movie premieres at midnight with her. I remember her coming to my birthday parties. I remember MANY trips to Chickfila. I remember going to her lake house after graduation. Carly showed me life to the full through Jesus. I am currently a Young Life leader, and always look back to my leaders. I now see the struggles they must have faced getting to know high schoolers. I have SO much appreciation for their perseverance to get to know me. It’s not easy. But the outcome is worth it.

Carly, thank you for getting to know me way-back-when. Thank you for the influence you have had on my life. Thank you for showing me true friendship. And thank you for showing me Jesus in the purest form. You will always have a place in my heart, right alongside Kama, Katie, Kara, Stacy, & Lauren. Cherish that sweet little boy of yours! He is beautiful.

Love,
Lauren

You can read more about Young Life, the Christian ministry Lauren mentions, here. Cody and I volunteered with Young Life for two and a half years, and although we no longer work with the ministry, we fondly remember all of the time and work we put in. YL was not always an easy ministry to work with.. high school kids are tough y'all, but our call from Christ is so much bigger.
